What is a One Page website?

The objective of a one-page site is to deliver just enough information that a user can act upon. The point is to remove as much “clutter” as possible and only concentrate on the most important content that will draw a user’s attention. A one-page website works best for product launch and promotions, represent a portfolio, and websites that have less content.

Additional Pages:

Yes, additional pages can be added. But those are only acceptable under some conditions, such as:

  • The page contents must be suitable for the main/parent One Page website but would add “clutter” to the user reading experience.

  • The links to these additional pages are not noticeable in the website header – distracting the user from the One Page reading experience. These page links are generally integrated with the website footer.

  • Alternative Language pages.

Advantages of One-Page Website Design:

  • It’s smooth, instinctive and easy to understand:

When you land on the average websites nowadays, you are greeted with a few obvious trends: a large image slider, top or side navigation, the main body of text/images/icons and a sidebar with various links, images and CTAs.

All are scattered multipage websites. But in the case of a single page website, the user experience is seamless and satisfying. The main difference here is the well-organized and “Clutter” free content.

  • User engagement: A recent study conducted over the internet says that people prefer to stay and scroll across the same page rather than having to click through multiple pages before they find what they are looking for. Visitors hoping to find the result sooner. They stay on your website for a long time when they feel that a surprise awaits them at the bottom of the page.
  • Working speed: The loading speed of any website is an essential factor which affects the experience of the users. No one likes waiting for long. You can’t afford to lose a visitor on your website just because you can’t provide him with few more seconds’ faster speed. But, when it comes to the web these some moments can cost a lot to the website. That is where a one-page website design has the benefit as compared to the multi-pages variants.
  • Mobile friendly: Another very good reason which favours the choice of single page websites is mobile compatibility. Mobile friendly or responsive web design has its own importance. Responsiveness is an important factor for increasing the amount visitors on the single page websites. The visitors would adore as well as appreciate a perfectly compatible, mobile or tablet version of your web page.

Disadvantages of One-Page Website Design:

  • A lot of scrolling: All people may not like to scroll through like others. If it takes a lot of time for scrolling, users will never want to stay on your website and without giving a second thought, they leave the site.
  • Not Good for Blog-Centered Websites: People love blogging and encouraging other businesses to include a blog on their website. However, we realise that handling a blog on a single page site could be rather difficult. If the blog is an important section of your site, then the single page may not be the right layout for you.
  • Meta Descriptions: As you have only one page, the Meta descriptions and title tags that you can include are limited. This is an advantage if you have only one product or service, but it’s a disadvantage if you have many products or services as you can use only limited keywords.
  • Content sharing is difficult: As there is only one page with different sections of content, it will be difficult for people to share content from each portion differently. They have to share the same URL for any portion of the content on your website. And it is not something people like to do.

SEO Attributes of One Page Website:

Though search engines like pages that have regular visitors, when it comes to the SEO part, the choice of keywords is very limited. You cannot optimise many pages for variety range of keywords.

  • Link Building: It may be difficult to attract a continuous flow of new links over time for only one URL. Design each section of content as if it is a different web page. Select the keywords you want to rank for and draft the suitable headline, copy, image alt tags and any other SEO signals.
  • Anchor Links: Google likes anchor links. Don’t get confused with anchor text, anchor links take you to an exact place on a web page. In search rankings, we’ve occasionally seen Google list anchor links as site links.

You can use multiple H1 tags on the same page, only if your website is a single page website. An H1 tag signal that what follows is distinct and different from the rest of the page. You should use only one H1 per section.
